Headbangers Ball Blog: When did you start seeing signs that Glen Drover might not be happy with what he was doing in the band? Mustaine: You know, out of respect for Glen, I’m not gonna really talk too much about that. He was having some stuff that he was dealing with, and we’re talking about someone who left for personal matters. He didn’t get into it, so why should I? I frankly don’t know what [made him want to leave] other than what he told me, which is he wanted to leave to be with his family. Now, Glen is the brother of our drummer, and out of just sheer stupidity you would talk shit about an exiting member when he’s got a sibling in your band, so I’ve got nothing to say. And even if I was mad a Glen, which I’m not, I wouldn’t say anything about it. Glen is a talented player, and he had given the thumbs up to Chris Broderick coming in, and [his brother] Shawn [Drover] is the one who even recommended Chris Broderick. So, I was really excited.

Glen was influenced a lot by Chris Poland, and we don’t play a lot of Megedeth from the Chris Poland era. Chris was totally influenced by Marty Friedman, who we play a lot of music from. It was the longest lineup, and for subsequent guitar players after Marty left, I tried to find people who sounded a little more like him than just kind of going in whatever direction I wanted to.

There was no real rhyme or reason between the choices of a player like Chris Poland, and then jumping to someone like a Jeff Young and then jumping to Marty Friedman. It wasn’t like I was advancing or progressing or following any kind of educational graph to get from Chris to Marty. The good thing now is every song is ready to go. Chris has been down here playing the songs with me. We play them in slow-mo, we film them on video cameras and we’re going over every single note – so much so that we even corrected things that bass and drums were doing wrong while we were doing rehearsal here prior to leaving for the tour. We got deep down in there and found a bunch of stuff that made it even tighter. I loved playing with Glen. This is a new chapter. I think we’ve taken it up a level. My family has always been my priority. Ultimately, I was unhappy with the situation, which magnified me want to spend more time with my family and realizing What came the time for me to go to the next chapter in my musical career. "Firstly, I would like to spend some good quality time here at home with my family for a while before arriving at anything serious. Obviously, I have not spent the last years of my life working hard to stop now. That would be insane, To put it mildly. This is what I do, and I am excited about what the future has in store for me in music. I would like to thank Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] for giving me a great opportunity to be a part of MEGADETH for the last three years-plus. To be a part of this band with my brother Shawn [battery] and the tour was incredible world , to say the least. "I have a lot of memories and met a ton of great people along the way, both fans and people in the industry. Am also very proud to have been a part of the MEGADETH bringing back to the front and firmly put the band of In turn map. Revolver: How do you feel when fans say MEGADETH's best lineup was you with drummer Nick Menza, gutiarist Marty Friedman, and bassist David Ellefson? Mustaine: Well, they're entitled to their opinion, totally, and if they're talking from a music point of view, that's understandable, because there's only been one record so far with the new lineup. But what they have to realize is that I sang almost every single note of Marty Friedman's guitar solos, and I wrote the majority of Nick's drum parts, and I wrote almost every bass note that Ellefson played. It's just a matter of these guys getting into the groove. Revolver: How is it between you and METALLICA's Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield since shooting "Some Kind of Monster"? Mustaine: How's what? I have no idea what you're talking about. You mean as friends? Nothing. I haven't said one syllable to them. I think it's probably pretty disappointing, all of this. We have the same demons. We suffer from bullshit, and you don't talk to somebody. It's fine. And there's enough people in the world that are tired of this story, me included. God, it's how many years old? 30 years old? Revolver: [Swedish cult black metal act] DISSECTION had to be canceled from Israel's 2005 Metalist fest because you don't play with Satanic bands. Do you still refuse to play with any band that has even a smidgen of Satanism? Mustaine: First, DISSECTION didn't have to be canceled. I made clear to my agent that I won't play with Satanic bands, and the promoter booked the band without checking with the agent. Because I'm a legend, I don't need to play with people who have gone on record and said they're an enemy of mine. Because I believe in God and he believes in Satan, that means we're enemies, right? It doesn't mean I can't pray for the guy; it just means he doesn't like me and he said so. And I told them that I was stepping off the bill. I never said to cancel those guys. Second, the guy [DISSECTION frontman Jon Nödveidt] threatened me in France. I have two first-degree black belts and I was just awarded a fourth-degree black belt from the World Taekwondo Federation. If the guy wants to threaten me, bring it. I went, he wasn't there. I try really, really hard to live my life peacefully, and this guy went on record saying he was my enemy. You know what? MEGADETH front man Dave Mustaine was one of the invited Featured Indie 103.1 FM's specialty metal program "Chaos with Full Metal Jackie" last night (Sunday, January 13). During the interview, Mustaine spoke about his latest venture, the Live Line, a service that allows musicians to connect to his audience on the phone. "This is not necessarily a new way, but, for me, is definitely a new venture," said Mustaine. "I had begun to make interactive voice response with fans, which basically is contacting them through their mobile, with the other company [SayNow] last year, and that gave me an idea. We kind of parted ways based on different things -- it just didn 'T work out - then I started this company with the people of SmartReply called The Live Line, and it is only a way to get in touch with the fans, to send messages to them, so that they can leave messages for us , to obtain updates the band and texts, and things like that. "And also a place where you can do things like… The site began, as has been developing, for having a popularity poll to see who, from some of the bands that were MEGADETH up for the European tour, [to] see what the fans thought of them and that helped us in the decision of who will be the band was for our tour - had a band called EVILE. And even though there was a band called that WARMACHINE , in fact, had more votes, with them, in Canada and things like that… that would have been a great choice for us to have arrived there, but as I said again, it was not necessarily that obtained the most votes - was a popularity And contest to see what the promoters and fans that thought. Dan Lamothe of MarineCorpsTimes.com reports that metal band leader of megadeth Dave Mustaine coordinated the donation of thousands of toys through the Marine All games for the Foundation to wildfire victims in the San Diego area, including four pallets delivered to Camp Pendleton, California. The effort was organized with the help of Hasbro Toys, which donated a portion of the thousands of toys, block sets and dolls delivered. Toy deliveries made in the chamber of commerce in nearby Fallbrook, California, and North Coast Church, Fallbrook church family attends Mustaine, said Bob Leonard, chief executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce. It is a paradox that this interest, with a family that attends church regularly, but they are still involved in this kind of music," said Leonard. The games were delivered to the church in part because there are 300 to 400 children of families who attend Marine and parents are deployed in Camp Pendleton, according to a prepared statement from the band.
