Pantera is heavy metal band from American Arlington, Texas, which formed in 1981. Although initially influenced by 1980 glam metal / hard rock bands, Slayer and thrash metal acts such as Metallica, as well as traditional metal bands like Black Sabbath It would prove to be influential in the band's change in musical direction at the end of the decade of 1980. Pantera later became a leading formulator of groove metal (post-thrash) subgenre of heavy metal music. It would not be until nine years after forming Pantera which saw its first piece of commercial success, in his major label debut, the Cowboys hell. From there, Pantera has become one of the most famous heavy metal bands of the decade of 1990. Despite the generally cold reception of the first four albums the band, critics have praised Pantera's later style; Jason Birchmeier of Pantera All Music Guide it is "undoubtedly the greatest metal band of 90 y ... one of the largest and most influential Metal bands ever. " The band received accolades as the ranking 45 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock [4] and fifth in MTV's" Top 10 Greatest Heavy Metal Bands of All-Time. " Due to the long conflict, Pantera dissolved in 2003. The following year, the band's guitarist, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, was shot and killed on stage during the performance of his new band, Damageplan.
