Where to Find Good Heavy Metal
There was a time when it was hard to find good heavy metal music. The only way to find new metal was to know someone who knew some good bands. There was no way fans could afford to take a chance on a cd we had never heard before. So many dreadful metal acts in the 80s put a stop to that. Some bands kept the faith, though, and good metal lived on in obscurity. With MTV came Headbanger's Ball, and bands could finally reach an audience and sell enough records to make it worth the sacrifice (no, not a goat!) Then, one day Headbanger's ball was gone and metal went back underground. Real fans kept up with the bands they had grown to love in the 80s and 90s until a new golden age would arise. Now is the time - Metal lives and metal flourishes everywhere!
Headbanger's Ball
Finally somebody realized that Heavy Metal is here to stay and they put Headbanger's Ball back on the air. Now James Jasta of Hatebreed fame hosts it and he gives the lowdown on metal 2 hours a week on MTV2, Saturday nights.
Hard Attack - Sirius 27
Satellite Radio is great. There is just no other way to say it. If you love metal, hit 27 and your ears will bleed most of the time. They have DJs and interviews with bands like regular radio, but no commercials so every drive through rush hour traffic can be filled with someone else screaming besides you! If it has a downside, it would be that they don't play enough new music. When you have almost 30 years of metal to consider, though, they do a pretty good job.
Music Choice
Time Warner Digital Cable has an entire channel devoted to heavy metal. No talking, no interviews, nothing but metal all day and all night. Music Choice seems to play more new metal than classic metal, which is always good when looking for the freshest music.
