Dimmu Borgir ( Black Metal )
The name Dimmu Borgir is taken from a large area so unusually lava fields east of the lake M э vatn in Iceland. The word Dimmu means foggy or dark and Borgir means castle or fortress. The band was originally formed in 1993 by Shagrath, Silenoz and Tjodalv. Shortly Brynjard Tristan and Stian Aarstad also joined the band.
They began his musical career with the launch of a 7 "EP called" Inn I Evighetens Mørke "(" Into The Eternity Of Darkness "), in 1994. Within a few weeks he had sold out. In late 1994 they released his debut full-length album called "For All Tid" ( "Forever"). This album featured contributions by Aldrahn of Dødheimsg е th and Vicotnik of Ved Buens Ende.
In 1996 they released one of the most important albums in metal black history in particular "Stormbl е th" ( "Stormwind"). This album showed the true talent of Dimmu Borgir with mature song writing and a strong influence of classical music.
About the first two albums of the band wrote all the lyrics in Norwegian, but after the launch of "Stormbl е ª" they transferred to English because of the growing popularity of the band.
In 1996 they released the "Path of the Devils ґ" MCD on Hot Records where Shagrath worked, taking care to signing and promotion of the label ґ es bands. Stian Aarstad not played the keyboards on this album, because he had to serve in the army.
In 1997 they released "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant," which was produced by Peter T д gtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, The Abyss). This album was a huge success and sold more than 150000 copies. Dimmu Borgir is now one of the largest black metal bands ever. The lyrics of "Tormentor of Christian Souls" left out in the booklet provided Nuclear Blast did not want to be responsible for printing the same.
After recording this album the band hired the Australian Astennu (Lord Kaos, Carpe Tenebrum, The Kovenant) to play guitar at live shows so that Shagrath could concentrate on her voice. Astennu substituído Jens Petter, que foi um membro da banda por um curto período entre "Stormbl е ª" e "Enthrone…". After the "Enthrone…" tour, Dimmu Borgir had a mini-tour where Tjodalv left the band for a few months to be with his family and newborn child. His replacement was Aggressor (Ved Buens Ende, Aura Noir), filling in as a session drummer. In "Enthrone…" tour, Stian Aarstad had difficulties to participate in some of the presentations and was fired from the band. Stian Aarstad already joined the Norwegian black metal band Enthrall. After he left the Kimberley Goss (Therion, Ancient, Sinergy) joined the band for a short time as a session keyboardist. She was replaced by Young Mustis who was a friend of Shagrath. He played live with the band for the first time, the Dynamo Open Air Festival 1998.
In 1998 Nuclear Blast decided to re-release the album "For all Tid." This album contains all of the original material and includes two songs from their 7 "EP" Inn I Evighetens Mørke. "That many years Dimmu Borgir also released a MCD called" Godless Savage Garden.
The next album "Black Spiritual Dimensions" was once again recorded in the famous Abyss Studios with Peter T д gtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, The Abyss). One month after the launch of this album Dimmu Borgir made a split album with Old Man's Child called "Sons of Satan Gather for Attack," which was released in Hammerheart.
Early on the 1999 tour in the EU Tjodalv decided to leave the band due to personal and musical differences. He had a family to take care of and could not make the huge tours of Dimmu Borgir. Tjodalv was replaced by the well-known Nick Barker of Cradle Of Filth.
In March 2000, the band was ready to start recording a new album. They had reserved The Abyss Studio, but needed more time to complete the new material and also suffered some financial problems. Nick was still living in London and could not afford to come to Norway too often.
